Each year, suicide claims more lives than war, murder, and natural disasters combined, making it the 10th leading cause of death in the U.S. Through research, education, advocacy and loss support programs AFSP has become the leading national organization dedicated to preventing the loss of life by suicide.
Funds raised from The Out of the Darkness Walks allow AFSP to fund research, create educational programs, advocate for public policy and support survivors of suicide loss. In efforts to maximize funds contributed, AFSP utilized 83% of every donor dollar on research and program initiatives, well above industry standards.
AFSP recently launched Project 2025, an aggressive step towards increasing prevention efforts by focusing on critical areas that can reduce suicide the fastest and help achieve their goal to reduce suicide rate 20% by 2025.
The Out of the Darkness Walks help fulfill the AFSP mission of saving lives and bringing hope to those affected by suicide, while working towards their ultimate vision of building a world without suicide.
